Legislative Updates (effective 2005):

  1. Act 565 amends R.S.9:5141 and 35:17(B) Instruments recorded of public record relative to immovable property shall only include the last 4 digits of the SSN of the parties to the instrument.
  2. Act 62 amends R.S.9:5212; R.S. 35:12(D) Inclusion of notary identifying number, typed/printed notary name, and typed/printed witness names on notarized documents.  Includes consequences for non-compliance and exempt status for out-of-state notaries.
  3. Act 455 amends R.S.35:12; R.S.35:511 Notary stamp usage and signature requirements on acknowledgments.
  4. Act 480 adds to R.S.9:5169.1 Recorders can now accept a release in authentic form to remove a mortgage from public record.
